Outlook

These projects are coming up

What we are working on in particular and what I want to complete in the next term of office.

  1. Refurbishment of the upper-floor rooms of the manor house at Gebhardshagen moated castle, costing €871,000, partly to be let to the Salzgitter police.

  2. Rebuilding of the private houses on Marktstraße/Klesmerplatz in the old town of Salzgitter-Bad that burnt down on 8 April 2019. On my initiative and that of the former supervisory board chairman Rolf Stratmann, the municipal housing company Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Salzgitter mbH bought them from the private owners in August 2020 in order to develop rental flats with a doctor’s surgery and to advance the old town — and thus also in the interest of the city of Salzgitter. After a variety of difficulties, completion is planned for the second half of 2027, with the rental flats and the surgery ready to move into a few weeks later.

  3. Refurbishment of the assembly hall at the grammar school in Salzgitter-Bad began in June 2026. Completion is planned for early to mid-2028. The cost is likewise expected to be around €11 million.

  4. The refurbishment and renewal of the thermal brine baths in Salzgitter-Bad is due to enter the planning phase in December 2026. Construction is currently planned to start in October 2028 in three phases. Final completion and reopening are scheduled for January 2032. The expected cost is around €29.5 million. For the preliminary measures costing around €3.4 million I secured federal funding of around €2 million.

  5. Further delivery of the refurbishment and new-build programme for the volunteer fire brigades' stations, at €1.2 million per year for the next 10 years.

  6. The planning phase for the new Fire Station II of our professional fire brigade in Salzgitter-Bad is to begin in 2026, with completion by the end of 2031. Total costs are expected to be around €43 million.

  7. Creating attractive, age-appropriate residential areas, including in the inner city.

  8. Continuation of the measures to enliven the town centres of Salzgitter-Bad and Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, for example Light the Night in Lebenstedt, Lichterzauber in Salzgitter-Bad, StadtStrand in Salzgitter-Bad, pop-up spaces (a stage with smaller concerts, a piano, a table-tennis table, a basketball hoop, public seating and similar) as well as planters and outdoor furniture for restaurants.

  9. I see a particular task in preserving and securing the future of our industrial jobs and in strengthening small and medium-sized businesses.
